Simeon Tribe

Simeon was second son of Jacob born 1568

Gen 29:33  And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I was hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon. 

Simeon slays because of defiling of sister

(Gen 34:25)  And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and slew all the males.

(Gen 34:26)  And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went out.

(Gen 34:27)  The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and spoiled the city, because they had defiled their sister.

Joseph bound Simeon

(Gen 42:23)  And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for he spake unto them by an interpreter.

(Gen 42:24)  And he turned himself about from them, and wept; and returned to them again, and communed with them, and took from them Simeon, and bound him before their eyes.

Simeon brought out

Gen 43:23  And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.

Sons of Simeon

Gen 46:10  And the sons of Simeon; Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman. 

Instrument of cruelty

(Gen 49:5)  Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations.

(Gen 49:6)  O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall.

(Gen 49:7)  Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.

(Exo 1:1)  Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.

(Exo 1:2)  Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

(Exo 1:3)  Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,

Num 1:6  Of Simeon; Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai. 

(Num 1:22)  Of the children of Simeon, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, those that were numbered of them, according to the number of the names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

(Num 1:23)  Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty and nine thousand and three hundred.

Camp Simeon

(Num 2:12)  And those which pitch by him shall be the tribe of Simeon: and the captain of the children of Simeon shall be Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

(Num 2:13)  And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty and nine thousand and three hundred.

Peace Offering

(Num 7:36)  On the fifth day Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai, prince of the children of Simeon, did offer:

(Num 7:37)  His offering was one silver charger, the weight whereof was an hundred and thirty shekels, one silver bowl of seventy shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary; both of them full of fine flour mingled with oil for a meat offering:

(Num 7:38)  One golden spoon of ten shekels, full of incense:

(Num 7:39)  One young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a burnt offering:

(Num 7:40)  One kid of the goats for a sin offering:

(Num 7:41)  And for a sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year: this was the offering of Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

Num 10:19  And over the host of the tribe of the children of Simeon was Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

(Num 26:12)  The sons of Simeon after their families: of Nemuel, the family of the Nemuelites: of Jamin, the family of the Jaminites: of Jachin, the family of the Jachinites:

Inheritance of Simeon

(Jos 19:1)  And the second lot came forth to Simeon, even for the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families: and their inheritance was within the inheritance of the children of Judah.

(Jos 19:2)  And they had in their inheritance Beersheba, or Sheba, and Moladah,

(Jos 19:3)  And Hazarshual, and Balah, and Azem,

(Jos 19:4)  And Eltolad, and Bethul, and Hormah,

(Jos 19:5)  And Ziklag, and Bethmarcaboth, and Hazarsusah,

(Jos 19:6)  And Bethlebaoth, and Sharuhen; thirteen cities and their villages:

(Jos 19:7)  Ain, Remmon, and Ether, and Ashan; four cities and their villages:

(Jos 19:8)  And all the villages that were round about these cities to Baalathbeer, Ramath of the south. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families.

(Jos 19:9)  Out of the portion of the children of Judah was the inheritance of the children of Simeon: for the part of the children of Judah was too much for them: therefore the children of Simeon had their inheritance within the inheritance of them.

Cities Alotted

Jos 21:4  And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest, which were of the Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of Simeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities.

Jos 21:9  And they gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities which are here mentioned by name, 

Cities

(Jos 21:11And they gave them the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with the suburbs thereof round about it.

(Jos 21:12)  But the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, gave they to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession.

(Jos 21:13)  Thus they gave to the children of Aaron the priest Hebron with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Libnah with her suburbs,

(Jos 21:14)  And Jattir with her suburbs, and Eshtemoa with her suburbs,

(Jos 21:15)  And Holon with her suburbs, and Debir with her suburbs,

(Jos 21:16)  And Ain with her suburbs, and Juttah with her suburbs, and Bethshemesh with her suburbs; nine cities out of those two tribes.

Judah asks brother Simeon to help fight

(Jdg 1:3)  And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

(Jdg 1:4)  And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

(Jdg 1:5)  And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

Bezek

The residence of Adoni-bezek, in the lot of Judah ( Judges 1:5 ). It was in the mountains, not far from Jerusalem. Probably the modern Bezkah, 6 miles south-east of Lydda.

The place where Saul numbered the forces of Israel and Judah ( 1 Samuel 11:8 ); somewhere in the centre of the country, near the Jordan valley. Probably the modern Ibzik, 13 miles north-east of Shechem.


Slew the Canaanites

Jdg 1:17  And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.


Hormah

(meaning "broken rock", "banned", or "devoted to destruction"), also known by its Canaanite name Zephath (Tsfat צפת), is an unidentified city mentioned in the Hebrew Bible in relation to several conflicts between the migrant Israelite people seeking to enter the Promised Land and the Amalekites and the Canaanites who dwelt at that time in southern Canaan.  


Smote Amalekites

(1Ch 4:42)  And some of them, even of the sons of Simeon, five hundred men, went to mount Seir, having for their captains Pelatiah, and Neariah, and Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.

(1Ch 4:43)  And they smote the rest of the Amalekites that were escaped, and dwelt there unto this day.

144,000 Sealed

Rev 7:7  Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.
