Frumentius

Lebanese born christian missionary and the first bishop of Axum he was born in Tyre he and his brother became slaves to the king of Axum they gained favor of the king shortly before his death he freed them.The widowed queen, however, prevailed upon them to remain at the court and assist her in the education of the young heir.

He began to teach Christianity in the region,he later traveled to Alexandria Egypt about 347 where he appealed to have a bishop appointed and priests sent to Axum.Britannica.com says he visited St. Athanasius, bishop of Alexandria, in about 347. Athanasius ordained Frumentius bishop and commissioned him to initiate the cultural adaptation of Greek Christianity’s biblical-liturgical texts to Ethiopic symbols and language. Thereafter he was appointed bishop and established a church in Ethiopia

Frumentius is regarded as the patron saint of the former Kingdom of Aksum, and its contemporary territories.

He is the patron saint of St Frumentius Theological College, the Anglican seminary in Ethiopia.
